World para athletics: Turkey bags 2 medals in 1st leg

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey won a gold and a silver medal on Sunday in the first leg of an international para athletics championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Zubeyde Supurgeci won gold in the women's 100m (T54 category) with a time of 16.53 seconds.

Also, in the women’s 100 meter (T53 category), Hamide Dogangun bagged a silver medal, completing the race in 17.41 seconds.

A total of 430 athletes from 50 countries competed in the 11th Fazza International Athletics Championships, which is part of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix held since 2009.

Kicking off on Sunday, the championship will end on Feb. 27.
