World steel output falls 9.9% in November led by China

World's top steel producer China sees 22% annual decline in its November's figure of 69.3M tons

ANKARA (AA) - Global crude steel production fell 9.9% year-on-year in November due to a significant fall in China, the World Steel Association (worldsteel) said on Wednesday.

Global steel output reached 143.3 million tons in November, according to worldsteel data.

China, the world's number one steel producer, registered a 22% annual decline in November's figure of 69.3 million tons.

Other major steel producing countries saw rises in their output as India produced 9.8 million tons (up 2.2%), Japan 8 million tons (up 10.7%) and the US 7.2 million tons (up 13.8%).

Turkey, the world's eighth-largest crude steel producer, saw a 6.1% hike in crude steel production last month, to 3.4 million tons.

In January-July, global steel production climbed 4.5% from last year to 1.75 billion tons.

The World Steel Association is a prominent industry group, with its members representing around 85% of global steel production with more than 160 steel producers.
