Worldwide protests continue against US Jerusalem move

ANKARA (AA) - Demonstrations were held in several countries around the world on Saturday to protest U.S. President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.

Trump's decision last week triggered demonstrations around the world including in the occupied Palestinian territories, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq and other Muslim countries.

Saturday's demonstrations in Palestine left 13 Palestinians injured.

According to a statement by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS), eight Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces during the demonstrations in occupied East Jerusalem.

At least five Palestinians were injured in clashes between Palestinians and the Israeli army on the borders between Gaza and Israel, the Health Ministry said.

In the French city of Strasbourg, nearly 2,000 people participated in the Support for Palestinian capital Jerusalem rally.

In Germany, thousands of people held demonstrations in Hagen, Bonn and Frankfurt cities.

In Austria’s capital Vienna, a number of demonstrators gathered in front of the U.S Embassy with banners saying “No to Apartheit regime”, "Free Palestine" and "No to the siege of Jerusalem".

Various civil society groups organized a protest in Rotterdam, Netherlands which 150 people attended.

In Jordan’s capital Amman, women protesters demonstrated against Trump's move.

In Algeria, politicians, deputies, trade union representatives, non-governmental organizations and university students attended protests across the country.

Jerusalem remains at the heart of the Israel-Palestine conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem -- now occupied by Israel -- might eventually serve as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
