Clashes take place between UAE-backed Security Belt forces, government forces

ADEN, Yemen (AA) - At least 13 people, including civilians, were killed in the renewed clashes that began on Wednesday in the Yemeni interim capital Aden, medical sources and eyewitnesses said.

On Wednesday, violent clashes broke out in Aden between the presidential guards of the internationally-recognized government and the UAE-backed Security Belt forces. The clashes erupted after the call from the separatist Southern Transitional Council to its loyal forces to pound the Presidential compound and topple the government.

The clashes on Wednesday left at least 5 people -- including two civilians -- dead and 12 others injured, before it was widely renewed on Friday and left many causalities.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity, a medical source at the military Ba Souhaib Hospital said on Friday that "bodies of 8 militants were brought to the hospital in At'twahe city and 61 injured -- including civilians -- were also treated in the hospital".

"In the hospital, there are doctors from Cuba and Uzbekistan working to save lives amid very difficult conditions due to the ongoing clashes fighting in the area", the source added.

Eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency that violent clashes took place in Kreiter and Khour Mikser cities in Aden Governorate.
