1 killed, 25 injured in missile strike in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia

ISTANBUL (AA) - At least one person was killed and 25 were injured in a missile strike on two nine-story buildings in southeastern Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region on Wednesday.

"Unfortunately, one injured person, who was in serious condition, died. According to updated information, 25 people are currently in hospitals, three people are in serious condition, 19 are in moderate condition, three are in mild condition (two of them are children)," acting Zaporizhzhia Mayor Anatoliy Kurtiev said on Telegram.

Kurtiev previously said 18 people have been injured by the missile strike, among which four people are in critical condition while five received medical assistance on arrival.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier confirmed that a Russian missile struck a multi-story building in Zaporizhzhia.

“Zaporizhzhia. Right now, a Russian missile hit a multi-story building. Russia is shelling the city with bestial savagery. Residential areas where ordinary people and children live are being fired at,” Zelenskyy said in a message on Telegram.

Zelenskyy said the missile strike must not be perceived as “just another day” in Ukraine or anywhere else on the globe, noting that the world needs “greater unity and determination” to defeat Russia.

An earlier statement by the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration said two Russian missiles struck the building in question.

“Currently, all relevant services are in place and all necessary safety measures are in place for local residents,” it also said.​​​​​​​

Now in its second year, the war between Russia and Ukraine has so far killed 8,317 civilians and wounded 13,892 others, according to the latest UN figures.​​​​​​​
