ISTANBUL (AA) - The first shipment of mobile homes set out from Egypt on Thursday en route to the Gaza Strip under a ceasefire agreement with Israel, Egyptian media said.

Five trucks carrying 15 mobile homes and a bulldozer crossed the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing into the Kerem Shalom (Karam Abu Salem) terminal ahead of being allowed into Gaza, Egyptian television channel Al-Qahera News reported.

The channel aired footage showing trucks carrying mobile homes moving from the Rafah border crossing toward the Kerem Shalom terminal.

There was no immediate confirmation from Palestinian authorities in Gaza.

For weeks, Israel refused to allow mobile homes into Gaza under the ceasefire deal to shelter displaced Palestinians amid cold weather in the enclave until mediators intervened to enforce the agreement.

The ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement took effect last month, pausing Israel’s genocidal war that has killed nearly 48,300 Palestinians and left the enclave in ruins.

Last November the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
