KAMPALA, Uganda (AA) – A local court in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Friday sentenced two Chinese nationals to over 10 years in prison for sex trafficking and staying in the country illegally.
Jing Parg, his girlfriend Liu Yu, and their nine local collaborators were convicted of multiple offenses by Luta Tabu, a district magistrate in the capital Kinshasa.
"The case was between the public prosecutor and members of a Chinese pimping network with their Congolese accomplices, including 22 young women who were recruited in sex trade," Tabu said in his ruling.
The magistrate sentenced Parg and Yu to 10 years and three months in prison for trading, human trafficking for sexual purposes, and illegal stay in Congo, respectively.
Bernard Bula, a visa office official at the Foreign Ministry, was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for forgery, while the Congolese collaborators were each fined $1,000. The magistrate, however, acquitted the young women.
