2 dams collapse in China's Inner Mongolia

ANKARA (AA) - At least two dams in China collapsed due to heavy rains over the weekend, the Global Times daily reported Monday.

The dams were located in the Daur Autonomous Banner, or region, of Inner Mongolia, it said.

The collapse of the dams on the Nuomin River affected over 16,600 residents, flooded more than 21,708 hectares of farmland and destroyed 22 bridges, 124 culverts and over 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) of highways.

Local authorities have issued a high alert, while residents have been shifted to safer locations.
