2 dead in Greece earthquake

No casualties, damages reported in Turkey

ATHENS, Greece/MUGLA, Turkey (AA) – At least two people were kiiled on the Greek island of Kos after a magnitude-6.3 earthquake hit the Aegean Sea near the Turkish coast, local media reported early Friday.

Several people were also injured, according to Greek news agency ANA-MPA

In Turkey, Mugla Governor Esengul Civelek told Anadolu Agency there were no casualties or structural damage, according to initial reports.

The quake measuring hit at 1.31 a.m. local time (2231GMT) while four other quakes measuring approximately 4.2 and 4.6 struck between 1.52 a.m. and 2.23 a.m, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority’s (AFAD) website.

Civelek said some residents were spending the night outside becasuse of panic and fear.

“We have reached all our district as of this moment,” she said.

There wss no structural damage but a small number of residents were slightly injured in the panic, she said.

“There is no electricity cut, but there have been some electric faults due to the earthquake. We are working on it,” she said.

Turkish gendarmerie and the AFAD are examining the region for damage.

Last month, the region was rattled by a magnitude-6.2- quake that struck coastal Izmir's Karaburun district.
