2 Pakistani civilians killed by exchange of fire along border with India

KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) – Renewed border clashes between Indian and Pakistani forces killed at least two Pakistani civilians, officials said Wednesday.

There have been more than a dozen casualties from either side of the border in the last week, with military officials on both sides accusing the other of "unprovoked" gun fire and shelling.

Another Pakistani civilian also succumbed to injuries sustained near the Line of Control, a military boundary splitting the disputed Kashmir region, on Tuesday, the Pakistani army said in a statement.

Tensions between the two arch rivals have failed to ease after 19 Indian soldiers were killed in Indian-held Kashmir last month by militants India has claimed had links to Pakistan.

Since then, the two forces have been locked in a fresh wave of clashes on their shared border and the Line of Control.

Villagers living along the 2,900-kilometer border have often suffered the most from the frequent fallouts between the South Asian neighbors, who have fought three full wars since the partition of India in 1947, which created Pakistan after the end of British rule.
