2 militants killed in attack on educational facility in northwestern Pakistan

ISTANBUL (AA) – Two militants were killed on Monday after their attack on an educational facility in northwestern Pakistan, the army said in a statement.

The army said that militants initially attempted to breach the security perimeter at Cadet College Wana in South Waziristan, but had to retreat after the Pakistani military responded.

The attackers then rammed the main gate with a vehicle loaded with explosives, damaging the gate and the nearby infrastructure.

“Displaying unwavering courage and professional excellence, our own troops engaged the intruders with precision, eliminating two khwarij belonging to Indian proxy Fitna al Khwarij,” the army said.

Pakistan’s army refers to Tehreek-e-Taliban militants as Fitna Al Khwarij.

The military added that three other militants managed to get inside the college premises and have been cornered in the college’s administrative block, and the operation continues.

There was no immediate reaction from India to the Pakistani claims.

Earlier on Monday, Pakistan’s military claimed to have killed at least 20 militants in two separate operations in northwestern Pakistan over the past two days.

Some eight militants were killed in an "intelligence-based" operation in the town of Shawal in the restive North Waziristan tribal district, which sits near the Afghan border, said a military statement.

Another operation was carried out in the Dara Adam Khel district of the northwestern Khyber Phaktunkhwa province, and after an "intense fire exchange," 12 militants were neutralized.
