2 National Guard members shot in Washington, DC

WASHINGTON (AA) - Two members of the National Guard were shot in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

"Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington D.C," Noem said via US social media company X.

She said the Department of Homeland Security is working with local law enforcement to gather more information.

Separately, the DC Police Department said one suspect was in custody.

"MPD is on the scene of a shooting at 17th and I Street, NW. Please avoid the area," it said, adding the scene is secured.

The condition of the National Guard members who were shot has not yet been disclosed.
