National Defense Ministry says terrorists ‘escaped from a hideout in northern Iraq’

ISTANBUL (AA) - Two PKK terrorists surrendered Wednesday to security forces in southeastern Türkiye after escaping from PKK hideouts in northern Iraq, according to the National Defense Ministry.

"The escape from the terrorist organization PKK, the terror dens of which we entered with the Claw operations, continues. Two PKK terrorists who escaped from a hideout in northern Iraq have surrendered to our Border Post in Habur (in Sirnak province),” it wrote on Twitter.

PKK terrorists have hideouts in northern Iraq, across the Turkish border, which they use to plot attacks against Türkiye.

Türkiye launched Operation Claw-Lock a year ago to target the PKK terror group in the Metina, Zap and Avasin-Basyan regions.

It came after the Claw-Tiger and Claw-Eagle operations were launched in 2020 to root out terrorists.

In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
