SAKARYA, Turkey (AA) – Turkish security forces arrested 20 suspects across Turkey for their alleged links to the Daesh terror group on Thursday, according to a police source.
As part of a northwestern Sakarya-based operation, anti-terror, intelligence and special forces conducted simultaneous raids in 11 provinces to apprehend 20 Daesh suspects, the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to media restrictions, said.
The suspects -- Turkish, Iraqi and Syrian nationals -- were arrested for allegedly being senior Daesh members, recruiting for, and financing the group.
More than 300 people have lost their lives in Daesh-claimed attacks in Turkey so far, where the terror organization has targeted civilians in suicide bomb, rocket and gun attacks.
Turkish security forces have been involved in a long-running campaign to thwart Daesh attacks.
