29 injured as magnitude 6.0 earthquake strikes off Indonesia’s central Sulawesi

Local disaster management agency confirms there are no immediate fatalities or tsunami risks

ISTANBUL (AA) - A magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit central Sulawesi, Indonesia, on early Sunday, leaving at least 29 people injured, local broadcaster Kompas TV reported, citing the country's disaster management agency (BNPB).

The quake occurred at 0.38 local time (2238GMT Saturday) at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles) and affected the Poso Regency, with tremors felt in nearby regions. Among the injured, two individuals were reported to be critically hurt.

The BNPB confirmed there were no immediate fatalities and that there was no tsunami risk.

The BPBD also reported damage to the Elim Congregation Church in Masani Village, while data collection on the number of evacuees is still underway.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 18 kilometers northwest of Poso, 82 kilometers northeast of Sigi, 89 kilometers northwest of North Morowali and 93 kilometers southeast of Palu City.
