2nd try to form Bulgaria's new government ends in failure

Centrist party, We Continue the Change, returns mandate to President Rumen Radev, reports state-run news agency

ANKARA (AA) - A second attempt has failed to form a government in Bulgaria after general elections in October, local media reported on Monday.

The centrist We Continue the Change (PP) party returned the mandate to form a government to President Rumen Radev, according to the state-run BTA news agency.

"I return the folder with an unfulfilled mandate. Unfortunately, this list of national goals and tasks for their realization did not receive sufficient political support," said Nikolai Denkov, the PP's prime minister nominee.

The PP's mandate, given last Tuesday, followed an earlier failure on Dec.14 to form a government by the largest parliamentary group, GERB-UDF.

The third and last mandate to form a government is now to go to a third parliamentary group of President Radev's choice. The Balkan nation's Constitution does not set a time limit for handling that mandate.
