3 dead in fatal crash inside Italian tunnel

BRUSSELS (AA) - Three people were killed and two, including a child, were injured Tuesday in a traffic accident in a tunnel about 70 kilometers (44 miles) north of Florence, the ANSA news agency reported.

The collision involving a truck and a car occurred around 2.30 pm local time along the Variante di Valico route. Emergency responders, including firefighters and traffic police, quickly arrived to assist the victims and manage the situation.

Among the injured was a young girl who is receiving medical care.

The highway was temporarily closed between Firenzuola and Badia, causing a 7-km (4-mi) backup from Aglio, according to highway operator ASPI.
