At least three soldiers were killed when an avalanche struck on the Siachen Glacier in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, officials said Tuesday.
Authorities said the accident took place after the avalanche hit a camp at the glacier, and the bodies of the trapped soldiers were retrieved.
The Siachen Glacier is known as the world's highest battlefield, where rival soldiers of Pakistan and India have faced each other since the early 1980s.
The region has witnessed several avalanches in the past that have led to the deaths of soldiers.
Separately, the army said two soldiers and two militants were killed in a gun battle in the southern Kulgam district in the region
