Abducted Indian citizens were working in cement factory in Kayes Region when they were attacked by armed assailants, says New Delhi

NEW DELHI (AA) – Three Indian nationals working at a factory in the West African nation of Mali have been abducted and held as "hostages by a group of armed assailants,” the Foreign Ministry in New Delhi said.
According to a ministry statement released late Wednesday, the incident occurred on Tuesday, following an assault on a cement factory in the landlocked country's Kayes Region.
"Many military and government installations at multiple locations of western and central Mali were attacked by terrorists on July 1," said the statement.
Urging the "safe and expeditious" release of the abducted Indian nationals, New Delhi said its embassy in Bamako is in "close and constant communication with the relevant authorities of Mali."
“The government of India unequivocally condemns this deplorable act of violence,” the ministry said.
The ministry advised “all Indian citizens currently residing in Mali to exercise utmost caution, remain vigilant, and stay in close contact with the Embassy of India in Bamako for regular updates and necessary assistance.
The Malian army said it foiled seven coordinated terror attacks on Tuesday, targeting citizens as well as defense and security forces, and "neutralized" more than 80 terrorists.
