3 Maoist rebels killed in gunfight with Indian forces
Encounter takes place in eastern Indian state of Jharkhand

CHANDIGARH, India (AA) - Indian security forces killed three Maoist rebels in an eastern clash on Thursday, officials said.
“During post-encounter search, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) found dead bodies of three Maoists,” the CRPF said in a statement.
According to police, the encounter between Indian forces and Maoist rebels occurred in the eastern Jharkhand state.
Police also seized weapons during the search in the site, and the search activity is still underway.
The Maoist rebels have been fighting for more than three decades in eastern and central India for what they describe as the rights of tribal people in the region.
