4 Kyrgyz parties pass threshold to enter parliament

Voter turnout for parliamentary election was around 55%, according to preliminary results

BISHKEK (AA) - Kyrgyzstan’s election body has announced the first official result of the elections held on Sunday to elect 120 new members of the parliament.


According to the preliminary results, the voter turnout was around 55% and four political parties passed the 7% threshold to enter the parliament.


Out of the 16 political parties, Birimdik (Unity) party, Mekenim Kyrgyzstan (Homeland Kyrgyzstan) party, Kyrgyzstan Party and Butun (All) Kyrgyzstan party succeeded in entering the parliament.


While current Parliament Speaker Dastanbek Cumabekov’s Kyrgyzstan Party kept its seats in the parliament, the other three parties entered the parliament for the first time.


Turkey welcomed the peaceful holding of the parliamentary elections.


“We are pleased that the Parliamentary elections in Kyrgyz Republic were conducted successfully in a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere on 4 October 2020,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.


“We wish that the results of the Parliamentary elections would be propitious for the friendly and brotherly Kyrgyzstan,” read the statement.


“We believe that Government which is going to be formed following the elections will further contribute to the development of our bilateral relations and cooperation in all fields with our strategic partner Kyrgyzstan,” it added.
