4-magnitude earthquake shakes Jordan’s Aqaba Gulf

AMMAN, Jordan (AA) - A 4-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale struck the Gulf of Aqaba in southern Jordan on Thursday afternoon.

In a statement, the Jordan Seismological Observatory said the earthquake was felt at 14.42 local time (1142GMT) at a depth of 19 kilometers (11.8 miles), 60 km south of Aqaba city.

No injuries or damage were reported by the Jordanian authorities.

Jordan’s southern regions are seismically active, with the strongest recorded earthquake occurring in Aqaba in November 1995, measuring 7.3 in magnitude.
