47 injured in illegal border crossing in SE Turkey

Most of the illegal migrants injured in area near Iranian border are Pakistani nationals, say officials

HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) – Forty-seven illegal migrants were injured in southeastern Turkey when the van carrying them had an accident on Saturday, according to a hospital official.

The accident in the southeastern Hakkari province took place when the van fell into a stream bed in the Yuksekova-Daglica area, near the Iranian border.

Most of the injured were Pakistani nationals, said the chief of medicine at Yuksekova State Hospital.

Seventeen of the 47 were transferred to Hakkari State Hospital after their treatment in Yuksekova, the official added.

An investigation of the incident by the gendarmerie is ongoing.
