5 terror suspects nabbed on Turkey's borders

2 YPG/PKK members, 3 Daesh/ISIS suspects caught on border with Syria, says National Defense Ministry

ANKARA (AA) - Five terror suspects were nabbed in Turkey while trying to illegally cross the country’s borders, the National Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

The suspects, including three members of Daesh/ISIS and two members of YPG/PKK, were caught while trying to enter Turkey from Syria, the ministry said on Twitter.

The suspects were held in Turkey’s southern Hatay and southeastern Sanliurfa provinces, it added.

In 2013, Turkey became one of the first countries to declare Daesh/ISIS a terrorist organization.

The country has since been attacked by the terror group multiple times, with over 300 people killed and hundreds more injured in at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed assaults.

In response, Turkey launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.

In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of at least 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is its Syrian outfit.
