6.7 magnitude quake shakes Nicaragua region
US Geological Survey says earthquake’s epicenter was 58km at sea from Masachapa village

ANKARA (AA) – An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 on the Richter scale hit Nicaragua's Pacific coast on Thursday near a popular vacation destination, although there were no reports of casualties or damage at the moment.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake's epicenter was 58 kilometers (36 miles) at sea from the village of Masachapa, which is about an hour's drive southwest of Managua.
The country is located in the Ring of Fire, an earthquake belt with high seismic activity.
On July 8, 2000, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck Nicaragua, killing 12 people.
