6 construction workers killed in US after car crashes into work zone

WASHINGTON (AA) - Six construction workers were killed Wednesday in the US state of Maryland when a car crashed into their work zone on the shoulder of a highway, police said.

The vehicle entered the work zone in Baltimore traveling in between temporarily placed jersey walls and struck multiple workers before overturning, Maryland State Police said in a release.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 54-year-old Lisa Adrienna Lea, was transported by ground to Shock Trauma, where police said she was receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.

The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.
