ANKARA (AA) - Six suspects were caught while trying to flee from Türkiye to Greece and Syria, the National Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

Two more while nabbed while trying to illegally enter Türkiye from Syria, the ministry said in a statement.

Three of the eight people were found to be members of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), while two were affiliated with the PKK/PYD/YPG terrorist organization, it added.

No details were shared regarding the remaining three people.

FETO orchestrated the July 15, 2016 defeated coup in Türkiye in which 251 people were killed and 2,734 injured.

Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions; particularly the military, police and judiciary.

In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is the terror group’s Syrian offshoot.
