6 university students killed on educational trip to China mining company

ANKARA (AA) - At least six university students were killed after they fell into a floating tank Wednesday during an educational visit at a mining company in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, state media reported.

The students, who were from Northeastern University in the city of Shenyang in northeastern Liaoning province, were learning about the flotation process at the Wunugetushan copper-molybdenum deposit plant, when they fell into a flotation tank when a grate collapsed, Beijing-based Xinhua News reported.

Rescuers retrieved the students but they were confirmed dead by medical personnel. A teacher was also injured in the incident.

The local government, along with the school and China National Gold Group Corporation are investigating.
