7 Daesh/ISIS terror suspects nabbed in Türkiye

SANLIURFA, Türkiye (AA) – At least seven people with suspected links to the Daesh/ISIS terror group were arrested in Türkiye, authorities said on Thursday.

They were nabbed in simultaneous raids by counterterrorism and intelligence teams in seven provinces, the gendarmerie force of the southeastern Sanliurfa province said.

The raids were carried out as part of a probe being conducted in Sanliurfa in coordination with the provincial public prosecutor’s office, the statement said.

The suspects are believed to be linked to the Daesh/ISIS terror group and might have been planning suicide attacks in Türkiye, it added.

In 2013, Türkiye became one of the first countries to declare Daesh/ISIS a terror group.

It has since been attacked by the terror group several times, with 315 people killed and hundreds injured in at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed assaults.

In response, Türkiye launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.
