Afghan Taliban rejects UN report on Afghanistan's security, human rights, economic situation

Taliban spokesman says report contains 'inaccurate information' about Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (AA) – The interim Taliban administration in Kabul on Saturday rejected the United Nations’ quarterly report on Afghanistan's security, human rights, and economic situation, calling it "inaccurate information."

In a statement, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the report contains "inaccurate information" about Afghanistan and appears to be intended to raise unnecessary concern about the country's current situation.

"We categorically reject this report and consider it to be founded on misinformation and driven by an agenda of propagandistic distortion," he said.

On Thursday, the UN in its quarterly report said that 2,299 safety and security-related incidents occurred between February and April of this year, representing a 3% increase over the same period in 2024, according to Tolo News.

The report also expressed concerns about the ban on girls' education and the human rights situation in Afghanistan.

However, Mujahid criticized the UN, saying it portrays the country's situation in a negative light, ignoring the country's progress.

"In the aforementioned report, even ordinary criminal acts have been categorized as security-related incidents, despite the fact that such crimes occur at significantly higher rates in numerous other countries compared to Afghanistan," he said.
