Afghanistan gets $32M in humanitarian cash aid

Afghan central bank says it seeks good relations with all global financial, banking institutions

ISTANBUL (AA) – Afghanistan received $32 million in humanitarian cash assistance on Thursday.

The 21st cash consignment of international humanitarian aid arrived in Kabul today and was transferred to the Afghanistan International Bank, according to the country’s central bank.

Welcoming the assistance from the international community, the bank reiterated that the “provision of humanitarian assistance through the banking sector can create transparency and facilitate the delivery of assistance to the people.”

“The Central Bank seeks good relations with all global financial and banking institutions and expects the international community to pay attention to this issue and cooperate in facilitating relations with Afghanistan,” the bank said in a statement.

War-torn Afghanistan is facing a humanitarian crisis after the exit of foreign forces last August and the fall of the US-backed Kabul administration which resulted in the Taliban regaining power after 20 years of bloody war.

However, as the Taliban-led interim government awaits recognition by the international community that would allow it to bring in foreign investments and other financial benefits, the UN is leading a humanitarian mission to support the people in need.
