Afghanistan's top diplomat meets Iranian president, discusses bilateral ties, refugees issues
Pezeshkian expressed Tehran's readiness to bolster bilateral relations with Kabul, reports Afghan media

ANKARA (AA) — Afghanistan's acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on Sunday met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss issues relating to bilateral relations and Afghan refugees in Iran.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Tehran Dialogue Forum, Afghanistan's state-run Bhaktar News Agency reported, citing a statement from Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry.
During the discussions, Pezeshkian described Afghanistan and Iran as “good neighbors” and expressed Tehran's readiness to bolster bilateral relations and cooperation with Kabul in various sectors.
He highlighted the importance of cooperation in providing adequate support and facilities for Afghan refugees.
Muttaqi, for his part, underlined the need for increased trade, joint efforts to combat drug trafficking, and expansion of bilateral ties.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring a gradual and structured repatriation process for Afghan refugees to avoid disruptions to their livelihoods, businesses, and investments.
