Airbus posts net profits of $5B in 2021

Commercial aircraft deliveries number 611 last year, says firm in statement

By Gokhan Ergocun

ISTANBUL (AA) - Netherlands-based aircraft producer Airbus reported on Thursday €52.1 billion (some $61.5 billion) in revenues last year, while its net income reached €4.2 billion ($5 billion).

The firm said in a press release that it delivered 611 commercial aircraft last year, with CEO Guillaume Faury saying 2021 was "a year of transition, where our attention shifted from navigating the pandemic towards recovery and growth."

While gross commercial aircraft orders totaled 771 last year, up from 383 in 2020, the company's net orders after cancellations were 507, up from 268 in 2020.

Airbus Helicopters also booked 414 net orders in 2021, up from 268 in 2020.

US-based rival Boeing's revenues amounted to $62.3 billion, while it posted a net loss of $4.2 billion over the same year.

After Boeing's 737 Max type aircraft was involved a number of crashes, the firm had stopped deliveries to resolve problems.

Due to delays in these aircrafts' deliveries, the firm faced losses worth billions of dollars, so far.

Previously, it had said in a statement that 2021 was "a rebuilding year for us as we overcame hurdles and reached key milestones across our commercial, defense and services portfolios.

"We increased 737 MAX production and deliveries, and safely returned the 737 MAX to service in nearly all global markets."
