American 3rd-seed Pegula exits from French Open

In 3rd round, Belgium's Elise Mertens beats Jessica Pegula with straight sets

ANKARA (AA) - American third seed Jessica Pegula, a 2022 quarterfinalist in Paris, has been eliminated from the 2023 French Open on Friday.

In a women's singles third-round match at Court Philippe-Chatrier, Belgian 28th seed Elise Mertens beat Pegula with the sets of 6-1, 6-3 to reach the fourth round.

Mertens will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the next stage.

World no. 2 in women's singles, Aryna Sabalenka beat Kamilla Rakhimova with sets of 6-2, 6-2 in a third-round match to take on either US player Sloane Stephens or Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva.

Sabalenka from Belarus won the 2023 Australian Open in January, which was her first Grand Slam title.

The French Open will run through June 11.
