Anadolu Agency captures footage of destruction after Kyrgyz-Tajik border clashes

100 killed in clashes on Kyrgyz-Tajik border on Friday

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (AA) – Anadolu Agency captured footage of the destruction in the village of Ak-Say in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan, where border clashes with Tajikistan took place last week.

Almost all houses, barns, garages, shops and vehicles have been gutted in the village, which has a population of 2,000.

The walls are pockmarked will bullets.

The 36-meter bridge, which was built recently and is the only transportation artery to Ak-Say village, was also damaged during the shelling.

Marufhan Tulayev, first deputy governor of Batken region, told Anadolu Agency that nearly 400 buildings, including a mosque, a school, administrative buildings, a health center and a nursery building were damaged in the border region.

He noted the situation is stable in the Kyrgyz-Tajik border region.

Tulayev said that those who were evacuated from the region have not yet been allowed to return to their homes, and that they are carrying out damage assessment work in the region.

In the conflict that took place on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border on Sept. 16, around 100 people on both sides lost their lives.
