ANKARA (AA) - Anadolu Agency's Deputy Director General and Editor-in-Chief Yusuf Ozhan presented the agency's Environment Platform on Thursday at the 31st Conference of the MINDS, the International Association of News Agencies.

In his presentation, Ozhan said the world has been increasingly affected by environmental disasters such as floods, wildfires, and air pollution, as well as climate change, and that news agencies had a responsibility to inform the public and raise awareness on issues related to the environment.

Environmental crises have already become the most critical issue affecting the lives of millions of people, said Ozhan, presenting the platform created by Anadolu Agency to members of the press attending the conference in the Norwegian capital Oslo.

Ozhan said Anadolu Agency will hold a two-day international forum in 2022 as part of the Environment Platform.

Leaders and industry representatives will attend the panel discussions that will be held as part of the forum, aiming to increase social awareness by improving environmental communication in the media.

Participants of the forum will discuss climate pressure in the media, the countries' commitments to environmental crises and the media's approach toward them, Turkey's role in combating the global environmental crisis, climate transformation in sectors that cause global warming, the refugee crisis caused by climate change, discriminatory practices in the perspective of climate justice and human rights, environmental policies, and "climate capitalism," said Ozhan.

As part of his visit to Oslo, Ozhan paid a visit to Turkey's Ambassador to Norway Fazli Corman on Wednesday, and informed him about the agency's work and projects in the new term.

MINDS International was founded as a registered society in September 2007, following an earlier European Union co-funded project. MINDS is a non-profit organization, aimed to support the global digitization of media and the development of innovative media services that are relevant for the public.
