ANKARA (AA) - Anadolu Agency is here with a rundown of the latest developments around the world.

The US House of Representatives voted Thursday evening to adjourn for the day after a third marathon day of voting again failed to result in the election of a new speaker.

Citing the Moscow patriarch’s holiday appeal, Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a cease-fire along the entire line of contact in Ukraine from noon Moscow time Friday until midnight on Saturday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia on Thursday of using a cease-fire order to mark Orthodox Christmas as a cover to halt Ukraine's military advances. Ukraine's presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak also lashed out against Russia's unilateral temporary truce, calling it “hypocrisy.”

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Ukraine must be strong at the negotiation table to make peace with Russia, and this will be possible with more weapons support to Kyiv.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held phone calls Thursday with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He asked Putin for concrete steps to clear northern Syria of the PKK/PYD/YPG terror group, while in the call with Zelenskyy, he expressed readiness to facilitate and mediate the establishment of lasting peace with Russia.

The US "greatly" appreciates the role Türkiye has played in efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, the State Department said.

The UN said Thursday that it is disbanding its fact-finding mission into the Olenivka prison attack, citing a lack of access.
