Anadolu gifts cameras to Greek journalists after equipment damaged during Türkiye quake coverage

Greek journalists accept Anadolu's gift, express gratitude for gesture of solidarity

ATHENS (AA) - In a show of solidarity, Anadolu gifted cameras to Greek journalists after their equipment was damaged by unidentified attackers in Türkiye’s southern quake-hit region.

The Greek journalists were reporting in the Hatay province when some unidentified people damaged their equipment.

In a letter to the Greek journalists, Anadolu Director General Serdar Karagoz expressed his sympathy over the incident.

Anadolu believes in the importance of ensuring that all journalists are able to work in a safe environment, he said.

“I would like to inform you that all state institutions in Türkiye share your concerns. You can be sure that all aspects of this incident will be investigated and steps will be taken at the highest level to ensure that journalists are able to freely carry out their professional work,” said Karagoz.

“It will be an honor for us if you accept this gift. I hope this equipment will contribute to your journalistic work even under the most difficult conditions,” he added.

The Greek journalists expressed gratitude for the gesture of solidarity and accepted Anadolu’s gift.

On Feb. 6, earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 struck 11 Turkish provinces – Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Elazig, Hatay, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa – claiming more than 50,000 lives.

Over 13.5 million people in Türkiye have been affected by the quakes, as well as many others in northern Syria.
