Asian stock markets close with gains

ISTANBUL (AA) - While majority of stock exchanges in Asia were closed, two indices closed Tuesday with gains.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, was up by 7.71 points, or 0.23%, to 3,394 points.

The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, was the best performer of the day, soaring 12.5 points, or 0.06%, to 21,101.

Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 stock exchange was closed due to Constitution Day, China’s Shanghai stock exchange due to Labor Day, while Singapore and India's indices were closed due to Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
