At least 10 PKK suspects held in southeastern Turkey

HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) - At least 10 people were arrested as part of a counterterrorism operation in southeastern Hakkari province Thursday, according to provincial governor’s office Friday.

The ongoing operations to uncover and prevent the PKK terrorist organization’s activities were carried out in Cukurca district and Hakkari, the statement added.

The suspects were charged with being members of a terrorist organization.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and U.S. -- has killed more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians since taking up arms again.

In its over three-decade terror campaign against Turkey, more than 40,000 people have been killed.
