ISTANBUL (AA) - At least 21 people were injured Thursday in Russian strikes targeting Ukraine’s capital, said officials.
Multiple districts across Kyiv were affected, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram, adding the victims have been hospitalized.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said on Telegram that the capital faced a combined assault involving ballistic missiles from various directions and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).
Klitschko, urging people to stay in shelters, said Ukrainian air defenses are working to repel the attack.
According to Ukrainian officials, Sviatoshynskyi district suffered the most damage, with fires breaking out in six locations. Reports said that people were trapped under rubble in at least one residential building, where rescue workers and medical teams were deployed.
Authorities reported that in Holosiivskyi district, a UAV apparently fell near a residential building, causing garages and vehicles to catch fire.
Tkachenko warned that the threat would persist for several hours as air defense units continue operations against the attack.
The Russian side provided no immediate comment on the attacks.
The assault came as diplomatic efforts for potential peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia continue amid the war.
