Bahrain, US discuss boosting security cooperation in high-level talks

ISTANBUL (AA)— Bahrain and the US held high-level talks Sunday in Manama to strengthen bilateral security cooperation, according to Bahrain’s official news agency, BNA.

The meeting brought together Bahraini Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa and US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, who was accompanied by a senior security delegation.

Al Khalifa described the cooperation between Bahrain’s Interior Ministry and the US Department of Homeland Security as “a cornerstone of the strategic partnership” between the two nations, BNA reported.

He highlighted joint efforts in counterterrorism, aviation and border security, anti-human trafficking operations, and capacity-building initiatives to address emerging threats, particularly in cybersecurity.

Noem, for his part, emphasized the importance of expanding security partnerships with allies to promote regional and global stability.

The two sides also discussed key security challenges with the aim of enhancing cooperation and coordination in all areas of security work and confronting current and future challenges, BNA added.

The news agency did not specify the date of the US delegation’s arrival or the duration of its visit.
