'Bangladesh and Türkiye are each other’s key trade partners,' says mission chief
ANKARA (AA) - The Bangladeshi embassy in the Turkish capital Ankara hosted a reception Monday to celebrate Bangladesh’s Armed Forces Day.
Speaking at the event, Bangladesh's Chargé d'affaires, Shahnaz Ghazi, said the two countries have deep-rooted and excellent bilateral relations as they cooperate with each other in many international forums, including the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the D-8.
“Bangladesh and Türkiye are each other’s key trade partners. Bangladesh is the fourth largest buyer of Turkish-made weapons,” she said.
Ghazi also highlighted the vital contribution of Bangladesh's military to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in establishing global peace.
For his part, Bangladesh’s Defense Attaché Brigadier General Md. Rashed Iqbal highlighted the significance of the day. He also recalled the Bangladesh Armed Forces' glorious role in the country's freedom struggle in 1971.
Major General Huseyin Duman from Türkiye’s National Defense Ministry attended as the chief guest, who also underscored the military relations between the two countries.
Bangladesh celebrates Armed Forces Day every year on Nov. 21 to mark the founding of its army, navy and air force during the 1971 Liberation War.
