Borsa Istanbul down sharply at weekly opening

ISTANBUL (AA) - Türkiye's benchmark stock index opened Monday at 12,987.42 points, decreasing by 5.32% or 730.39 points.

On Friday, the BIST 100 fell by 1.17% to 13,717.81 points at Friday's close, with a daily transaction volume of 191 billion liras ($4.36 billion).

As of 10.05 am local time (0705GMT), exchange rates stood at 43.9700 Turkish liras to the US dollar, 51.6220 to the euro, and 58.8520 to the British pound.

The price of an ounce of gold was $5,388.4, while Brent crude oil was trading at $78.9 per barrel.
