British man faces lawmaker murder plot charge

Alleged member of banned far-right terror group accused of inciting murder against Labour Party lawmaker

By Ahmet Gurhan Kartal

LONDON (AA) - An alleged leader of banned British far-right organization National Action will appear in court Friday charged with inciting murder.

Thirty-one-year old Christopher Lythgoe was arrested with five other individuals in September as part of an investigation into the extremist group.

It is believed the murder threats relate to Labour Party lawmaker Rosie Cooper.

Four men, some alleged to be active members of Britain’s military, are charged with being members of a proscribed organization.

An unnamed person is also charged with making death threats in an alleged plot to kill Cooper after being accused of making threats to kill and intending to commit acts of terrorism.

The men are to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court.

National Action was proscribed as a terrorist organization in December 2016.

The anti-Semitic and white supremacist group had celebrated the murder of another Labour lawmaker, Jo Cox, in June 2016 by far-right extremist Thomas Mair.

The group describes itself as a "National Socialist youth organization". However, Home Secretary Amber Rudd has described it as “racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic”.
