British PM Rishi Sunak arrives in Washington on 2-day visit

NEW YORK (AA) - British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived in Washington on Wednesday on a two-day visit to discuss the war in Ukraine and economic and defense cooperation with US President Joe Biden.

Sunak will meet President Biden, members of Congress and business leaders with a focus on "strengthening the alliance" to fuel growth in economies, the prime minister's office said.

"The UK and US have always worked in lockstep to protect our people and uphold our way of life. As the challenges and threats we face change, we need to build an alliance that also protects and grows our economies. That's my focus in the next few days," Sunak tweeted as he arrived in the US capital.

The visit marks Sunak’s first to the US since he took office last October.
