ANKARA (AA) - A major union of medical professionals in the UK has called for improved working conditions to avoid the collapse of the National Health System (NHS).
Some medical professionals, who sometimes have to work way beyond their normal hours, sometimes up to 18 hours, cannot afford their basic expenses, Onay Kasab, the chief negotiator for Unite, told Anadolu.
“We have spoken to nurses who go home every day and cry” because they have not been able to provide enough to their households “despite their best efforts,” he said.
Kasab went on to say that the government “did not wish to discuss pay,” adding that there are members who are relying on food banks.
“There was no proposal at all on pay by the government,” he added.
Kasab also claimed that the government spread rumors that there can be lumpsum payments to medical workers, but nothing concrete has been done to this day.
