ATHENS (AA) - Bulgaria noted the importance of the international legal order on Sunday following US attacks on Iranian nuclear sites.
Expressing concern about the “growing tension in the region and the potential risks to international peace and security,” the government said: “The preservation of international legal order and arms control mechanisms is of utmost importance."
“The government is in constant coordination with partners from the European Union and NATO,” it added in a statement.
The government added that “the radiation background on the territory of Bulgaria is normal and is constantly monitored by the authorized bodies,” citing data and information from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and competent international agencies.
The situation in the region further deteriorated after US President Donald Trump announced Sunday that American forces carried out "very successful" airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, amid growing fears of a broader conflict in the region.
Iran demanded the UN Security Council hold an emergency meeting to condemn US aggression and to hold accountable those who violate international law.
Hostilities broke out June 13 when Israel launched airstrikes on several sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes.
Israeli authorities said at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds injured since then in Iranian missile attacks.
Meanwhile, in Iran, 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 wounded in the Israeli assault, according to the Iranian Health Ministry.
