'Hate and violence have no place in our city, or our country,' says Mark Carney

ISTANBUL (AA) – Canada’s prime minister denounced a reported unprovoked assault on a Muslim woman in her late teens on public transit Tuesday afternoon.
“Yesterday, a young Muslim woman in Ottawa suffered an unprovoked assault on public transit, including with reprehensible Islamophobic threats and slurs,” Mark Carney wrote on US social media company X.
He added: "Hate and violence have no place in our city, or our country. The perpetrator must be held accountable, and my thoughts today are with the victim. No one should be unsafe as they head to work or school in our communities."
Police, who are seeking witnesses, described the suspect as a man in his twenties or thirties, about 5 feet 8 inches (1.7 meters), with a slim build and a beard.
They said he was apparently unknown to the woman and got off the bus in Kanata, Ottawa, as reported by CBC news.
