Casino fire in Cambodia kills 10, injures dozens

Rescue operation underway as fire engulfs building with 400 people inside in Poipet city in western Banteay Meanchey province

ISTANBUL (AA) - At least 10 people were killed and 30 others injured in a massive fire that engulfed a building housing a casino in Cambodia.

Authorities in Poipet city in the western Banteay Meanchey province, along the border with Thailand, Thursday said at least 10 people lost their lives in the fire that engulfed the Grand Diamond City hotel-casino.

There were more than 400 employees in the casino when the fire engulfed the building, Khmer Times reported. The fire started at around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday (1630GMT Wednesday).

Most of those stuck inside the building are said to be Thai nationals.

A massive rescue and relief operation is going on at the site.

The cause of the fire is not known as it was yet to be fully extinguished.
